Symbols Explained

OKVEGAN uses the following symbols, logos, or icons to denote any certifications a brand may have.

Not all products manufactured or sold by the brand may meet the qualifications for certification. Always review the brand's website to ensure products meet your specific dietary habits, nutritional goals, and environmental and ethical standards.

The Non-GMO Project Verified mark assures consumers that the product bearing the label has been evaluated for compliance with the Non-GMO Standard. The verification mark does not state that a product is “GMO Free,” and it does not state that the product is safer, better or healthier. It simply states the product is compliant with the Non-GMO Project Standard.

In order to make an organic claim or use the USDA Organic Seal, the final product must follow strict production, handling, and labeling standards and go through the organic certification process.  The standards address a variety of factors such as soil quality, animal raising practices, and pest and weed control.  Synthetic fertilizers, sewage sludge, irradiation, and genetic engineering may not be used.

Distributed and recognized globally, the Certified Vegan Logo is a registered trademark, similar in nature to the kosher mark, for products that do not contain animal products or byproducts and that have not been tested on animals. The certified logo is easily visible to consumers interested in vegan products and helps vegans to shop without constantly consulting ingredient lists.

Certified Plant Based products are independently verified by NSF International and must pass its review before the label can be used. Independent verification provides a higher level of objectivity and integrity to claims. You can read more about the verification process on NSF’s website hereView the protocol.

Kosher Certification is the stamp of kosher approval by a rabbinic Agency verifying they have checked the products ingredients, production facility and actual production to ensure all ingredients, derivatives, tools and machinery have no trace of non kosher substances. The Kosher Certified symbol assures consumers that both the actual product and its production adhere to all Kosher Law requirements.

More than 1,000 companies are using the “PETA-Approved Vegan” logo to highlight clothing, accessories, furniture, and home decor items made of vegan alternatives to animal-derived materials such as leather, fur, silk, feathers, or bone. It helps consumers identify vegan items at a glance while shopping and make purchases that align with their values.
